After flying high against the Winside Wildcats on Thursday, the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack came back down to earth. Tri County Northeast took a 41-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponca on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tri County Northeast in their matchups with Ponca: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Tri County Northeast saw an underclassman step up: Briley Anderson scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Shantel Miller, who scored four points along with five assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Tri County Northeast were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Ponca was led to victory by Elsie Keller and Aix Hughes. Keller scored 16 points, while Hughes dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Keller scored 15 or more points.
Tri County Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Ponca, they pushed their record up to 4-3 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Tri County Northeast will head out on the road to face off against Tekamah-Herman on Tuesday. Ponca and Battle Creek will face off at 4:00 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Battle Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
