Basketball Game Preview: Centura Centurions vs. Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals

Centura hasn't had much luck against Doniphan-Trumbull recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Centura Centurions will welcome the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Saturday, Centura came up short against Gothenburg and fell 62-51. The Centurions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The losing side was boosted by Barrett Fries, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyus Francl, who posted nine points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Doniphan-Trumbull also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Grand Island Central Catholic by a score of 58-45.

Centura will need focus on slowing down Parker Volk, one of several Doniphan-Trumbull players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. Jack Poppe was another key player, putting up nine points along with six assists and three blocks.

Doniphan-Trumbull's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Centura, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Centura has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Doniphan-Trumbull struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Centura was dealt a bruising 75-36 loss at the hands of Doniphan-Trumbull in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Centura was down 47-21.
