Mountain Brook's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stuart Andrews, who rushed for 92 yards and two TDs. That's the most rushing touchdowns Andrews has posted since back in August. Trey Vinson was another key player, rushing for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mountain Brook's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Boyd Cooper, Skip Stuermann, and Mason Baynes, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Shades Valley came up short against Pell City last Friday and fell 21-14. While losing is never fun, the Mounties can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Panthers are ranked 37th).
Shades Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cameron Johnson, Terrance James, TYLER YOUNG, and Amare White picked up one apiece. White got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Shades Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Mountain Brook, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Mountain Brook has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 197.4 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Shades Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 70.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Mountain Brook against Shades Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 37-0 victory. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Mounties have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
