Softball Recap: Illini West Wins Going Away Against Bushnell-Prairie City

Illini West never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bushnell-Prairie City on Monday. They blew past the Spartans 16-2. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Hattie Wood looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Natalie Wibbell, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Shutwell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Illini West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bushnell-Prairie City only posted an OBP of .292.

Illini West's record is now 9-16. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, their loss was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-21.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illini West will head out to square off against Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they will venture away from home to take on West Prairie at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cyclones have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.81 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
