5A Region III District 24 recap September 10, 2013
Nicholas McGee of Clear Lake ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 24 this season against Pasadena Memorial last week. McGee scampered for 61 yards on the play and finished with 150 on the day as his team beat the Mavericks.
Fans got a thrill when Samuel Smith, III and Sean Fortney connected against Pasadena Memorial. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 89 yards.
Matt Guidry was the best wideout in the league this week as Clear Springs bested Dobie. Guidry tallied 9 receptions for 108 yards. Devin Milburn helped Clear Springs' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 65 yards.
Zach Cripps was a passing and rushing force as the Chargers defeated the Longhorns. He completed 19 passes for 252 yards and also ran for 17 yards.
Brandon Hayward was the most successful running back in 5A Region III District 24 this week. He ran for 182 yards on 17 carries as Clear Falls bested Dobie. Teammate Sam Draper added to the ground attack by rushing for 67 yards.
Smith, III put up the best numbers through the air as Clear Lake beat the Mavericks. He finished with 7 completions for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Dickinson moved up to 351 from 576 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Gators climbed the ranks as a result of beating Friendswood 33-30.
