The Half Moon Bay Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Homestead Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Half Moon Bay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.1 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Half Moon Bay duked it out with Presentation on Thursday. Half Moon Bay fell 12-9 to Presentation. The Cougars' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Sydney Sarabia stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Paisley Harris also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, everything went Homestead's way against Lynbrook on Tuesday as Homestead made off with a 22-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Lilly Markines and Mackenzie Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Markines struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Markines a new career-high. At the plate, Markines scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Smith scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leela Menon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Izzy Gutierrez, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI.
Homestead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lynbrook only posted an OBP of .267.
Homestead's record is now 2-0. As for Half Moon Bay, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 4-3.
Everything went Half Moon Bay's way against Homestead when the teams last played back in March of 2016, as Half Moon Bay made off with an 8-1 win. Does Half Moon Bay have another victory up their sleeve, or will Homestead turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
