Basketball Game Preview: St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings vs. Mount de Sales Academy Sailors

The St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings will face off against the Mount de Sales Academy Sailors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. John's Catholic Prep has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Mount de Sales Academy will arrive with three straight victories.

St. John's Catholic Prep saw some tournament action last Saturday. They fell to Oxon Hill 51-47.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Olivia Bolduc, who posted 18 points and six rebounds. Her afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Cayenne Pigeon was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Mount de Sales Academy won against George Washington last Sunday with 40 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Mount de Sales Academy slipped by Washington 40-39. The win was all the more spectacular given the Sailors 's disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 57th in Maryland, while the Patriots are ranked tenth in West Virginia).

St. John's Catholic Prep's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

St. John's Catholic Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Mount de Sales Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 47-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. John's Catholic Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
