Basketball Recap: Tuscola Extends Winning Streak to Five

Tuscola entered their tilt with East Henderson on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They enjoyed a cozy 59-45 victory over the East Henderson Eagles. The Mountaineers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Tuscola got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Julia Wells out in front who went 10 for 17 on her way to 24 points. Those 24 points gave Wells a new career-high. Nora Jenkins was another key player, putting up 18 points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, East Henderson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mamie Hill went 10 of 22 on her way to 21 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassie Everson, who posted nine points and five steals.

Tuscola pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for East Henderson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tuscola will square off against Pisgah at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pisgah knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Tuscola likes a good challenge. As for East Henderson, they will challenge North Henderson at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Henderson is facing North Henderson at the right time seeing as North Henderson is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
