Basketball Recap: Ozanam Takes a Loss

Ozanam was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri Crusaders, falling 64-27. While losing is never fun, Ozanam can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri is ranked 134th).

Ozanam's loss came despite strong showings from Orlando Webb and A.W. Poke. Webb dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Poke posted ten points and eight boards. Poke is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Brodie Simons also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joachim Burton, who earned 22 points and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Burton has scored at least a third of Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri's points. Another player making a difference was Phil Basola, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.

Ozanam's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Ozanam has already played their next contest, a 45-22 defeat against Midland Adventist Academy on the 28th. As for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-51 victory against Training Center Christian on the 28th.
