Saint Gertrude is a perfect 3-0 against Christchurch School since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Gators will welcome the Seahorses at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Saint Gertrude had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Collegiate on Tuesday. The Gators were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Cougars. The win continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Sophia Covington and Sophie Sims were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Covington tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sims struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. At bat, Covington went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double, while Sims went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Sims has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Campbell Kincaid, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Anna Okay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Saint Gertrude hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Christchurch School had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Ambassadors.
Alivia Bruce made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Bruce was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Christchurch School let Rylee Taylor and Avery Thomas run wild. Taylor went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Thomas went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Teresa Espiritu, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
The victory got Saint Gertrude back to even at 8-8. As for Christchurch School, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Christchurch School's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Saint Gertrude hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Christchurch School, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Saint Gertrude's hitters?
Saint Gertrude came out on top in a nail-biter against Christchurch School in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Gators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Seahorses turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
