The South Elgin Storm will head out to challenge the Elmwood Park Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. South Elgin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
South Elgin's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Aurora East as they made off with a 25-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Storm, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
South Elgin got a massive performance out of Liv Miller, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Sheehan, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple.
South Elgin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Elmwood Park had just enough and edged out Palatine 2-1 on Saturday.
Leilani Mendez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Elmwood Park's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carole Akers, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
South Elgin's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Elmwood Park, their record now sits at 6-12.
Elmwood Park's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Elgin has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Elmwood Park, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given South Elgin's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
