Bethlehem Catholic and Nazareth Area are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Bethlehem Catholic will welcome Nazareth Area at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bethlehem Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Bethlehem Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Pocono Mountain West get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.
Not much got past Tyler Santay, who gave up just a hit to keep Pocono Mountain West off the board. That's the fewest hits Santay has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bryce Blawn, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Nazareth Area not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024. They put the hurt on East Stroudsburg South with a sharp 9-0 win.
Ryan Petruska made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Tyler Baker looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Chase Kilareski was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Matt Daems, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Bethlehem Catholic pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Nazareth Area, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bethlehem Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Nazareth Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bethlehem Catholic took their win against Nazareth Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5. Will Bethlehem Catholic repeat their success, or does Nazareth Area has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
