West Michigan recap Oct. 9, 2012
Oakridge extended the longest winning streak in West Michigan this week by beating Shelby, 20-9. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Eagles.
Whitehall took down Hart 48-24 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Montague's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Moore threw for 97 and one touchdown and Alex Vanvleet had 57 yards receiving. On the ground Zarren Aylor chipped in 95 yards. Jacob Marsh helped Montague's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Jack Gautraud made the biggest impact on defense this week as North Muskegon beat Ravenna. The 5-foot-9 senior pulled down two interceptions.
The Norsemen's Adrian Anderson and Sam Powell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Anderson has thrown for 483 yards this season, while Powell, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 15 catches for 331 yards. Jim Moore from the Pirates leads the league in rushing with 508 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oakridge takes on the Vikings. At the moment, Cary Harger's team is in first, while Whitehall is in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when North Muskegon and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Mike Belmonte's team comes in having scored 188 this season, while Montague has scored 214. The Norsemen scored 29 points last week as they bested the Bulldogs.
North Muskegon made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,148 from 6,388. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 29-8 victory over Ravenna last week.
