They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Crestline. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Taylor Scheid made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Payton Weilnau was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ava Wadsworth, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Monroeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crestline only posted an OBP of .158.
Meanwhile, New London had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over Mansfield Christian on Thursday.
The team relied heavily on Olivia Yetter, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
New London's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Monroeville, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
New London's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Monroeville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for New London, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Monroeville keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
