Oak Grove is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Leeds is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Oak Grove Tigers will welcome the Leeds Greenwave at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Wednesday, everything went Oak Grove's way against Indian Springs as Oak Grove made off with a 16-1 win. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Student recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Weston Hyche made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Wiley Hicks and Brawley Burns did most of the damage at the plate: Hicks went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Burns scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave Burns a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Jay Fuller, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-1.
Oak Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Leeds got the win against Ramsay on Thursday by a conclusive 17-7.
Graham Gulock was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Jacob Calvin was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Leeds has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Oak Grove's win bumped their record up to 15-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oak Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Leeds struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oak Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Leeds when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 7-2. Does Oak Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leeds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
