The Midlakes Screaming Eagles will challenge the Newark Reds at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Monday, Midlakes needed a bit of extra time to put away Waterloo. They skirted past the Tigers 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Screaming Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ayden Klapp and Braxton Wilkes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Klapp tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wilkes struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Klapp is becoming a predictor of Midlakes' success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 3-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't). At bat, Klapp got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Wilkes went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Zach Donk was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Nick Hunter was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Newark won against Waterloo on Thursday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Reds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Palmyra-Macedon. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Reds have posted since May 5, 2025.
Like Midlakes, Newark also got a great game from a two-way player: Jayce Baker. He struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Baker was also big at the plate, earning one run and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keane Brady, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Newark's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Midlakes, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Midlakes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Newark struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Midlakes was able to grind out a solid win over Newark when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 13-10. Do the Screaming Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Reds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
