The Calvin Christian Crusaders's five-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 42-31 win over San Jacinto Valley Academy. For Calvin Christian, this counts as revenge for the 41-26 defeat San Jacinto Valley Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2016.
Calvin Christian found their leader in underclassman Caleb Lapka, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lapka has scored at least a third of Calvin Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Oh, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Despite the defeat, San Jacinto Valley Academy had strong showings from Robert Edwards, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds, and Jacob Fisher, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Edwards continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Even though they lost, San Jacinto Valley Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their eighth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Calvin Christian's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for San Jacinto Valley Academy, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Calvin Christian will look to defend their home court on Monday against St. Joseph Academy at 4:00 p.m. St. Joseph Academy is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for San Jacinto Valley Academy, they will challenge Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
