Augusta and Osseo-Fairchild are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Beavers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunder at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Augusta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Augusta will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Alma Center Lincoln on Monday. The Beavers blew past the Red Raiders 16-1. The Beavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Augusta let Sophie Bergman and Laney O'Brien run wild. Bergman went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while O'Brien went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases O'Brien has posted since back in April. Cecelia Schroeder was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Augusta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Osseo-Fairchild was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell 6-1 to Melrose-Mindoro. The defeat continues a trend for the Thunder in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.
Osseo-Fairchild saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaliyah Bush, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Augusta's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Osseo-Fairchild, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Augusta's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Beavers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Osseo-Fairchild, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Augusta continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Augusta's way against Osseo-Fairchild in their previous meeting back in March, as Augusta made off with an 8-0 victory. Do the Beavers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunder turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
