Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They put the hurt on the Garinger Wildcats with a sharp 24-6 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Chris Odom made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Odom was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Brian Crowder, who scored five runs and stole Six bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Crowder is becoming a predictor of Independence's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Alfred Seaman, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Independence and bumps their season record up to 4-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 17.5 runs. As for Garinger, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will host Lincoln Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season. We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. Garinger has given up an average of 15.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
