The La Jolla Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Patrick Henry Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
La Jolla had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They breezed by Morse at home to the tune of 56-6. Given La Jolla's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Morse is ranked 472nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jackson Diehl continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 111 yards on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 219 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes. Nick Sebro also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Patrick Henry made sure to put some points up on the board against Crawford on Thursday. Patrick Henry blew past Crawford 37-14. The result was nothing new for Patrick Henry, who have now won three matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
La Jolla has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight contests, giving them a 6-2 record. As for Patrick Henry, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4.
La Jolla didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Patrick Henry when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 41-35 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Patrick Henry's Malachi Ghitman, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 268 yards and a touchdown while completing 73.7% of his passes. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for La Jolla to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
