The Monacan Chiefs will challenge the Matoaca Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Monacan headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but L.C. Bird let them put that streak behind them. The Chiefs never let the Skyhawks get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Thursday. The Chiefs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 7, 2024 (when they won 14-1).
The team relied heavily on J'Ael Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Morgan Wilcheck was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Monacan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Matoaca never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hopewell on Thursday. They blew past the Blue Devils 14-0. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Abby Davis made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Savannah Wright was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Raven Crabtree, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Monacan's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Matoaca, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
