The Heritage Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Heritage has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Mountain Vista will arrive with five straight wins.
On Wednesday, Heritage didn't have quite enough to beat Chaparral and fell 2-1.
Camden Nichols was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Heritage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Eells, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista made easy work of Rock Canyon on Wednesday and carried off a 9-3 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Golden Eagles have posted against the Jaguars since April 24, 2019.
Advait Jadhav looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Spike Magill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Martinez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Mountain Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Mountain Vista pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Heritage came out on top in a nail-biter against Mountain Vista when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
