Newton hasn't had much luck against Grovetown recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Newton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Newton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Grayson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Newton fell just short of Grayson by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Newton has suffered against Grayson since August 22, 2023.
London Treadwell was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Treadwell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Treadwell wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aaliyah Parsons, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Archer hit Grovetown with a four-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors fell 8-5 to the Tigers.
Jada Fulbright and Iman Wright stepped up to the plate in a big way. Fulbright got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, while Wright earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Treasure Story, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Newton's record now sits at 13-10. As for Grovetown, their record is now 21-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Grovetown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Newton suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Grovetown in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
