The Brenham Cubs lost against the Lake Creek Lions back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Brenham received a tough blow as they fell 39-21 to Lake Creek. While losing is never fun, Brenham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Lake Creek is ranked 54th).
Despite the loss, Brenham saw an underclassman step up: Jakoby Dixon rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Dixon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Tyvonn Byars was his usual excellent self, rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns, while also picking up 56 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Parker Smith, who threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Brenham now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Lake Creek, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Brenham will head out on the road to face off against Port Neches-Groves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Port Neches-Groves' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six matches. As for Lake Creek, they will take on Nederland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
