Having just played yesterday, the South Wake Sabres will jump right back in to play the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Wake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
On Thursday, South Wake was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-44 to Cary Academy. South Wake has struggled against Cary Academy recently, as their match on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, South Wake got a solid performance out of Jacob Webb, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Kaleb Santos was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wake Christian Academy made easy work of New Life Camp on Wednesday and carried off a 64-40 win. Given Wake Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while New Life Camp is ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wake Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Beckett Coon, who scored 21 points. The match was Coon's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brady Williams, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
South Wake's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Wake Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Wake have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wake Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
South Wake lost to Wake Christian Academy on the road by a decisive 69-54 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can South Wake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
