5A Region IV District 29 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Eagle Pass moved up to 725 from 756 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 29. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of a 21-0 win over United South.
Del Rio extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Alexander, 34-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Rams.
United's dynamic duo of Derek Esparza and Eric Corona proved tough for Laredo LBJ to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Esparza threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns and Corona had 111 yards receiving. Terry Dalehite helped United's passing attack out by catching five balls for 87 yards.
Xavier Skaggs was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 125 yards on 22 carries as the Bulldogs defeated the Wolves. Heriberto Elizondo also contributed to the rushing game with 12 yards on the ground.
United's Alec Salas and Dalehite have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region IV District 29 in both passing and receiving yards. Salas has thrown for 1490 yards this season, while Dalehite has 61 catches for 884 yards. Isaac Cabello from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 539 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Del Rio takes on United South. At the moment, Steve Hoffman's team is in first, while Sergio Salinas' team is in fourth.
Winn was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league.
