The Steele Canyon Cougars will challenge the Otay Ranch Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steele Canyon is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Steele Canyon blew Helix out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Helix got their revenge. The Cougars fell just short of the Scotties by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered against the Scotties since May 28, 2021.
Steele Canyon saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Sos, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Sos has hit this season. Ily Barclay was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Otay Ranch). Their pitchers stepped up to hand West Hills a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Mustangs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21, 2025 (when they won 11-1).
Scarlett Martinez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Avah Gonzales was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Anissa Olivo, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Otay Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Hills only managed two.
Otay Ranch's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5-1. As for Steele Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
