Hesston hasn't had much luck against Haven recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Swathers will host the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Hesston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Hesston after they put the first run on the board two weeks ago, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Abilene by a score of 5-4.
Elyse Griffin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Wendy Roth was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Haven). They never let Russell get on the board and left with a 21-0 win on Monday. Considering the Wildcats have won 15 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Brawner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Haven got a massive performance out of Morgan O'Neal, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those four hits gave O'Neal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mayzie Warden, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Haven was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .719. They are 15-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Haven is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hesston, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hesston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Haven struggles in that department as they've averaged .529. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hesston couldn't quite get it done against Haven in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Will the Swathers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
