Softball Recap: Havana Picks Up Fourth Straight Win on the Road

Havana won the last time they faced Astoria/VIT and things went their way on Monday too. The Ducks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Rebels. Considering the Ducks have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddie Howerter made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Havana got a massive performance out of Addie Atwater, who fired off three triples, three runs, and two RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Atwater has posted since back in April. Ava Kramer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Havana pushed their record up to 18-3-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Astoria/VIT, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Havana will host West Prairie at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cyclones have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.8 runs per game on average), something the Ducks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Astoria/VIT, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Farmington at 4:30 p.m.
