The Wyoming East Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Oak Hill Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wyoming East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Wyoming East will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Bluefield, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Warriors blew past the Beavers 13-1 on Monday. 13 seems to be a good number for the Warriors as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Zach Hunt made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hunt was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Blake Shrewsbury was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Calvin Cameron, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill suffered their biggest defeat since April 17th on Friday. They lost 16-3 to St. Albans. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Red Dragons recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Wyoming East's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wyoming East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oak Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wyoming East beat Oak Hill 8-5 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
