Game of Inches
After a comfortable win over Kennedy in the match before, Valley might have felt a bit of anxiety in its most recent match. Valley won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by Waukee 28 - 27. The result was just as the MaxPreps state rankings suggested, although the scoreline definitely wasn't as one-sided as expected. The razor-thin margin made this game the most thrilling one of the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Ankeny Centennial and Dowling Catholic, 4th and 5th in the power rankings, respectively. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Ankeny Centennial beat Dowling Catholic 14 - 7. Ankeny Centennial saw its record improve to 4-0 and its power rank jump six places as a result.
Movin on Up
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Spirit Lake last week (their 3rd in a row). It picked up a decisive 'W' against Sioux Center, finishing up at 58 - 13. That 45-point margin marks the most Spirit Lake has won by all season. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 15, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Bishop Heelan Catholic (15th in the power rankings) and Sergeant Bluff-Luton (6th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
