Benson and the Monarchs are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Benson Bunnies will head out on the road to take on the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Benson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Monarchs like a good challenge.
Even though Omaha North scored an imposing 61 points on Thursday, Benson still came out on top. Benson managed a 65-61 victory over the Vikings. The win was just what Benson needed coming off of a 81-55 defeat in their prior matchup.
Benson relied on the efforts of Mckenzie Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Jesani Green, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds. Ahmani Klabunde was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven steals and five assists.
Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. Their rough 60-36 loss to Millard West might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Papillion-LaVista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Wildcats are ranked third).
Benson's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Papillion-LaVista, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-4.
Benson came up short against the Monarchs in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 65-54. Thankfully for Benson, Brooklynn Holloway (who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
