Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Hinsdale Central turned things around against Friendship on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Golden Eagles. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bobcats considering their one-run performance the game before.
Jackson Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Hinsdale Central is 2-1 when Jones posts ten or more strikeouts, but 0-12 otherwise. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hinsdale Central got a massive performance out of Tyler Richards, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Richards a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Elliott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Hinsdale Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Campbell-Savona hit Alfred-Almond with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 7-6. The Eagles have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Alfred-Almond now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Hinsdale Central, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-13.
Hinsdale Central suffered a grim 19-4 defeat to Alfred-Almond in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
