The Viera Hawks entered their tilt with the Edgewood Red Wolves with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Viera strolled past Edgewood with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 58-41. Given Viera's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Edgewood is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Viera's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lauren Bell, who scored 22 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Bell has scored at least 25% of Viera's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Winslow, who scored 17 points.
Loss or not, Edgewood got some senior leadership from Emma Kelleher who scored nine points and Shelby Preble who scored 11 points along with four steals. Preble is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Viera's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Viera won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Rockledge at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Rockledge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Friday. As for Edgewood, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Astronaut at 6:00 p.m.
