The Melrose Golden Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Middle College Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though Melrose has not done well against Memphis East recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Melrose came out on top in a nail-biter against Memphis East and snuck past 82-79. The victory was just what Melrose needed coming off of a 76-50 loss in their prior matchup.
Melrose's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Devin Sanders Jr, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 rebounds. Sanders Jr is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was William Carver, who scored 20 points along with 7 steals and 5 assists.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Middle College on the road against Craigmont on Tuesday as the team secured a 71-28 win.
The losses dropped Melrose to 4-4 and Memphis East to 1-4.
Melrose came up short against Middle College when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 57-49. Can Melrose avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
