Iona Prep will face off against Kennedy Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Iona Prep had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Cardinal Hayes on Tuesday. The Gaels were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Cardinals. With that win, the Gaels brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Kendrick Jorge, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Devin Diaz, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Iona Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Hayes only posted an OBP of .435.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Kennedy Catholic and Salesian have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Gaels blew past the Eagles 21-2. With that victory, the Gaels brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Nolan Summer looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ryan D'Ambrosio was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Kennedy Catholic is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-3 otherwise. Lance Morgan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Iona Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Kennedy Catholic, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Iona Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Kennedy Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Iona Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Kennedy Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 5-2. Does Iona Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kennedy Catholic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
