After three lead changes,
John Carroll (Bel Air, Md.) took the lead for good when
Brandon Lewis thew a touchdown to
Austin Markley with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
St. Mary's (Annapolis, Md.) 31-21 on Saturday.
After trailing 17-7 at the half, the Saints went ahead on a touchdown run by
Bryce Corasco with 4:00 to go in the fourth.
John Carroll saw its 10-point halftime lead fall to three entering the fourth.
JC's most effective player was Lewis. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Corasco played well for St. Mary's. The sophomore running back ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
A 31-24 John Carroll victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for St. Mary's, which notched a 34-19 victory over Pallotti in its previous outing. The loss snapped SM's 2-game winning streak.
St. Mary's (3-3) will play a MIAA B game against Boys Latin next week, while John Carroll (6-0) will take on St. Paul's also in a MIAA B game.
