The Holyoke Dragons's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 win over Haxtun. That's another feather in the cap for Holyoke, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Holyoke was led to victory by Audrey Talavera and Ellie Kleve. Talavera scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Kleve scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kleve has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Emy Goldenstein, who scored three points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Several Fightin' Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily Anderson, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Heily Avery, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Haxtun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holyoke only pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Holyoke's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9. As for Haxtun, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Holyoke will be playing in front of their home fans against Sedgwick County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Haxtun, they will head out on the road to square off against Briggsdale at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Briggsdale presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Haxtun in Colorado (Briggsdale is ranked 37th, while Haxtun is ranked 239th).
