Softball Recap: Marshfield Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Marshfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Whitman-Hanson Regional on Wednesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-2 win. Considering the Rams have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sofia Blanco made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Madelyn Whitaker was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Aubrey Finn was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Marshfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.

Marshfield's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Whitman-Hanson Regional, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshfield will take on Silver Lake Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 3.3, the Lakers 0.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Whitman-Hanson Regional, they will face off against Hanover at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
