Softball Recap: Colorado Finds Playoff Glory Versus Anson

With a playoff win on the line, Colorado rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Anson Tigers as they made off with a 13-7 victory. Considering the Wolves have won 20 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Obenhaus made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over nine innings while giving up seven earned runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Taelynn Oden and Alexis Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Oden went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Martinez went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Oden has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Aj Goodney, who went 2-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Colorado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matches.

Colorado has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Anson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Looking ahead, Colorado will challenge Floydada on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolves 3.6, the Whirlwinds 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Anson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
