Morrow is 2-7 against Langston Hughes since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will challenge the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Morrow has given up an average of 13.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Morrow and Forest Park, and Forest Park kept the tradition alive. The Mustangs took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers on Wednesday.
Morrow got a big performance out of Caden Zellers, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Antwan Walker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Langston Hughes). They blew past Morrow 22-13 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.
Korey Jones looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Langston Hughes is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-17 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyun Alford, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Cody Coleman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Langston Hughes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Morrow's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Langston Hughes, their record is now 5-18.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morrow has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Langston Hughes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Morrow suffered a grim 22-13 defeat to Langston Hughes when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
