The Smithville Seminoles lost to the Okolona Chieftains back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. Smithville strolled past Okolona with points to spare, taking the game 45-29. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Smithville.
Smithville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Halle Sargent, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Sargent has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Wall, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and six steals.
Smithville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-17 record this season. As for Okolona, they now have a losing record at 12-13.
Smithville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against West Union at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. West Union presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Smithville in Mississippi (West Union is ranked 98th, while Smithville is ranked 256th). Okolona does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
