Even though the Decatur Red Raiders have not done well against the Athens Golden Eagles recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Decatur secured a 48-42 W over the Golden Eagles. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Decatur also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Decatur found their leader in underclassman Jennifer Mitchell, who scored 19 points. Mitchell hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiah Jackson, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Decatur's win bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Athens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Decatur is on the road again on Monday and plays the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. As for Athens, they will challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hartselle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Golden Eagles in Alabama (the Tigers are ranked 20th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 233rd).
