Roosevelt extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Ida B. Wells Guardians, falling 24-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Guardians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Wednesday.
Zahir Hardy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
As for Ida B. Wells, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Ida B. Wells' side, Grae Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Wilson was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ida B. Wells got a massive performance out of Cody Roletto, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Roletto has become a key player for the Guardians: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-6 otherwise. Jackson Poole was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Coming up, Roosevelt will square off against Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Democrats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.09 runs per game on average), something the Roughriders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ida B. Wells, they will take on McDaniel at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
