Water Valley took down Mooreville 45-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jonathan Kent threw for 39 yards and one touchdown and ran for 18 yards in the win.
Nettleton and South Pontotoc played the most hotly contested game in 3A Region 2 this week, with Nettleton eventually emerging with a 32-29 victory.
The Cougars' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Pannell threw for 253 and two touchdowns and Evan Kidd had 129 yards receiving. On the ground Pannell chipped in 143 yards. Josh Estes helped South Pontotoc's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.
South Pontotoc's Pannell and Davius Wilson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pannell has thrown for 1030 yards this season, while Wilson has 15 catches for 316 yards. Josh Johnson from the Troopers leads the league in rushing with 512 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Blue Devils take on the Cougars. Water Valley is currently in first, while South Pontotoc is in fifth.
There should be lots of points scored when Brad Embry's team and the Cougars face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Blue Devils comes in having scored 272 this season, while South Pontotoc has scored 124. Water Valley scored 45 points last week as it defeated Mooreville.
Mantachie made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,820 from 11,499. The improvement was the result of 53-14 victory over the Mustangs last week.
