The Loomis Wolves were the 60-40 winner over the Cambridge Trojans when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Loomis fell just short of Cambridge by a score of 57-54. Loomis found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Loomis lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cale Nelson, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Ben Trompke was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Cambridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Krayton Ruggles led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Ruggles grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brohdey Wood, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Loomis' loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-3. As for Cambridge, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Loomis will square off against Ansley/Litchfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ansley/Litchfield is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Cambridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Cozad at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cozad is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.2 points per game.
