Dutch Fork and Irmo are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes will be home for the holidays to greet the Irmo Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dutch Fork has four straight victories, Irmo has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Wednesday, Dutch Fork beat A.C. Flora 64-53.
Michaela Fairwell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with five assists and four steals. The matchup was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Christyonna Jackson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Irmo was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 45-41 to River Bluff.
Despite the loss, Irmo saw an underclassman step up: Abby Livingston scored 17 points along with seven assists. That's the first time this season that Livingston scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elaina Whalen, who scored five points along with ten rebounds.
Dutch Fork pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Irmo, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Dutch Fork have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Irmo, though, as they've been averaging only 32.6 rebounds per game. Given Dutch Fork's sizeable advantage in that area, Irmo will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Dutch Fork against Irmo when the teams last played back in November as the team secured a 72-30 victory. Does Dutch Fork have another victory up their sleeve, or will Irmo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
