This season hasn't been kind to the Mattamuskeet Lakers, who are still winless after their 11th contest. They had to suffer through a rough 66-11 loss at the hands of Bear Grass Charter. Mattamuskeet was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-7.
Despite the loss, Mattamuskeet still got an impressive performance from Kensley Cox, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That was a full 72.7% of Mattamuskeet's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Mccoy, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mattamuskeet struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bear Grass Charter racked up 13 assists.
Bear Grass Charter found their leader in underclassman Aubrey Dotson, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Holliday, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Mattamuskeet dropped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bear Grass Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Mattamuskeet will head out on the road to face off against the Dolphins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ocracoke comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Bear Grass Charter, they will play host again and welcome the Wildcats, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 529th, while the Bears are ranked 257th).
