Softball Recap: Academy of the New Church Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Academy of the New Church). They put the hurt on Germantown Friends with a sharp 20-3 win on Tuesday. The Lions haven't had any issues with Germantown Friends recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Maddie Conlon made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Olivia Schriver was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Joey Baker was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Academy of the New Church pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Germantown Friends, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Academy of the New Church will square off against Calvary Christian Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.5 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Germantown Friends, they will face off against Abington Friends at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Abington Friends will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Germantown Friends surely won't give up without a fight.
