Adams City is 9-1 against Aurora Central since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Adams City suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Skyview at home and fell 68-26. Adams City was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-6.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ruby Aguilar, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Williams, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and five steals.
Adams City struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Skyview racked up 25 assists.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central was beaten by George Washington 60-15 on Friday.
Aurora Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez, who scored a point along with 12 rebounds and three steals, and Alayna McClain who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals. McClain is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Adams City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season. As for Aurora Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Adams City have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 44.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 52.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Adams City beat Aurora Central 38-25 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Adams City repeat their success, or does Aurora Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
